The Challenge:
Peter McManus already had the reputation, the regulars, and the stories. But like many legacy establishments, its digital presence hadn’t fully caught up to the experience happening inside the bar every night.
How do you modernize it without losing its soul? How do you create content for a historic New York bar among up and coming establishments and viral moments?
The Strategy:
Preserve the legacy while bringing the story forward.
The objective was to document a place that’s genuinely lived through decades of New York history and is still vibrant today. At the same time, the content needed to introduce the bar to a newer generation.
Every piece of content needed to reinforce what Peter McManus has always been:
family-owned
community-driven
fun
rooted in culture
The Approach:
Peter McManus Cafe holds a deeper meaning for our team. You may have noticed, it sits at the very intersection our agency is named after. 19th & 7th isn’t just our brand, it’s rooted in love and family. This connection shaped the entire creative process.
Rather than approaching the bar like outsiders documenting a “historic location,” we came at it from the inside. The rhythms of the room, the staff dynamics, the regulars, the quiet afternoons and crowded Friday nights. The creative direction centered around this kind of authenticity.
Real staff interactions. Real conversations. Real moments.
The Ongoing Partnership:
- Social Media Management
- Photography
- Videography
- Branding
- Press and Media Support
The visuals lean into warmth, texture, movement, and the charm of old New York and Irish culture. Typography and branding updates referenced vintage typewriter aesthetics and classic pub sensibilities while still feeling clean enough for modern platforms.
Content series like Bartender’s Corner helped turn longtime staff members into recognizable personalities, bringing audiences closer to the people who actually make the bar what it is.
Food photography, behind-the-scenes kitchen moments, staff interviews, archival press, old film and television appearances, plus day-to-day bar energy all became part of a larger living archive of the McManus story.
The goal was never just to post content for the sake of doing so, it’s to preserve culture in real time and remind people why they keep coming back: the door is always open.
The result is content that feels less like advertising and more like a memory made on a Friday night with your people.
